Ocean State Of Mind!

How to keep The Ocean State ahead of the nation...keep our run-off to ourselves! Erosion solution, Storm water system and surface water pollution...there's an "app" for that!

Rhode Island...the Ocean State! This term means many things to many people. Some recall images of rolling waves hitting the beach, some think of clambakes enjoyed in the yard of that little shanty on the harbor.... Me, I think of how we're still sending all our storm water runoff back into Narragansett bay!

That's right, storm water runoff. You know it as erosion, rain, snow melt and grey water from washing our cars, watering grass and a slew of other activities. For generations Rhode Islanders have been mindlessly sending anything that floats right down the driveway straight into the catch-basin. I trust you've all been made aware that various agencies throughout the nation make their best attempt at educating people as to the dangers of erosion, pollution and general destruction of our water systems. Well, let's have a brief look at what education has done.

We have strong laws prohibiting the dumping of toxic substances into any active or adjacent systems. We have environmental agencies enforcing these laws. We have local authorities monitoring the movement, removal and general activity of water course inhabitants near ocean, stream or lake...still, we fall short of halting storm water at the source!

The answer...permeable pavement, that's right! Why are we not promoting the installation of porous surfaces when homeowners, business owners, commercial sites and municipalities are replacing or installing for the first time? Let's educate ourselves with regard to the features and benefits of permeable pavestones and keep our runoff to ourselves! Learn more about this amazing installation system now and save the waterways for tomorrow. I'll be happy to post much more information on this topic if interest dictates, until then, "Start Living Outdoors!"
