Lights! Camera! Action!
It’s crunch time for the EGHS Drama Club. It has five days to put together an amazing play, with over 70 actors and various members of tech crew. Seems like an impossible feat.
I’m going to be honest: I’ve never really been part of the drama club scene. I just never really pictured myself fitting in there. But amidst pleas for volunteers from the actual members of tech, I decided to pitch in. And now, you’ll find me contributing my own blood, sweat, and tears to the play every day after school.

Now, I’m not good enough to control the lights, or work with the sound board. But I get to help out backstage, whether that includes moving props, fixing costumes, or helping nervous actors with their lines.
The talented cast and crew are exactly like a big family. A family that fights, yells, and makes fun of each other, but a family nonetheless. We all know that without the other part there, we wouldn’t be able to pull this massive production off by Thursday.

The tech crew is the unseen force behind the entire production; we manage costumes, make sets, control the curtains, make props, and handle the lights and sound. We do the majority of the panicking, the frantic nine o’clock at night runs to A.C. Moore for gold paint, and the highly caffeinated, all-weekend-long set building. My sponge painting? Stellar. If you ever need someone to sponge paint rocks on a wall, give me a call.
Not to mention, this past week, I helped to make a bed out of 18 pool noodles, yards of unruly fabric, twine, adhesive spray and coffee. I don’t know what tech crew would do without .
The play is called Once Upon a Mattress, and follows the storyline of the Princess and the Pea. Our shows are on Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m., and Saturday at 1 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door and it's fun for the whole family! Come see all of our hard work!
