Oscar The Grouch

Do you drive a standard?

I’m sure you were all waiting with bated breath for a week, so I’ll tell you right off the bat. Its official, I’ve got my license! The test was easy, I shouldn’t have been stressing out like I was! But I’m just excited to finally be able to drive all by myself. It’s a weird feeling, I’ll tell you, from going 16 years always having someone else in the car to talk to, and then suddenly having nothing there but empty space. Thank goodness for the radio!

As you know from my blog this summer, my car is a little green Honda Civic, all the way from Florida. His name now is Oscar, because well, it has the word “car” in it, he’s green, and he can be a bit grouchy sometimes.

Did I mention Oscar’s a standard? It’s hard, I can tell you that. But I seem to be getting the hang of it. My only issue? How close people get behind you at stop signs and traffic lights. For automatic drivers, this is perfectly fine. But for me? Not so much. Especially when said stop sign is on a hill of any kind. Because, being the new stick shift driver that I am, I tend to roll backwards, quite a bit. This only leads to honking and the occasional expletive, both from me and the other driver.

Other than that, the driving is going great! Oscar runs perfectly, and I couldn’t ask for a better car!
