Tailgate Recap!

The EGHS Tailgate on Friday night was a rainy sucess!

Avengers don’t let a silly little thing like rain stop us from having a good time.  Apparently. For everyone that attended Friday night's tailgate, you know that it rained. No, it didn’t rain. It poured. It seemed as though Avenger Lake was re-forming before our very eyes. However, despite the disagreeable weather, the tailgate was an all-around success!

Arriving at 4:45 with my small offering of home-made rice krispie treats, the members of class council and the volunteers were furiously arranging chairs and tents and food to appease the masses expected to show up. The sky was cloudy, but there were some blue patches if you squinted your eyes and looked hopefully off into the distance. People were arriving, the grills were steaming and everyone was having a great time.

Then, it started to drizzle.  And then the drizzle became rain, and the rain became a downpour. But did this stop us? No! We are Avengers, people! I was soaked completely through my Toms and the bottom half of my jeans, but did I call for a ride? No! Well, not right off the bat, at least. I had to stay and get Divya Mahadevan to henna my hand! The rain just kept on coming down, and despite a few suicide-missions, sprinting to the food tent for my life to get my burger, we basically huddled under the three, suddenly very small tents.  But it was still fun! I was with my friends, it was a Friday night, and we had a football game to win.

Things started to get interesting as the night went on, shirts were coming off, chests were being painted, and headbands were being worn.  Need team spirit? Leave it to the Avenger boys.

Around 6:30, I decided to desert the tailgate. As fun as it was, I was beginning to lose feeling in my toes, and of course, we had PSATs the next morning. However, the tailgate? A completely fun and successful fundraiser for the junior class, despite Mother Nature.

Editor's Note: The tailgate went on, but the football game (versus North Kingstown) was postponed, to be played Saturday (Oct. 15) at 7 p.m. at Nick Carcieri Field.
