The Summer Slump

Get over your summer slump!

Summer, as glorious a time as this is, does pose a number of problems, the biggest of which is boredom. I have learned over the years that you cannot just sit on your butt all summer, day in and day out, eating Oreos and reading books. Sure that’s okay, maybe for the first few days, just to recuperate from the stress of school, but after day 5 or 6, it gets on your nerves. Usually, during this time, you remain in your pajamas, unshowered as you try to mentally recover from those last few exams. This is a problem. A large one. Not only for your hygiene and personal well-being, but for whomever else is trapped in the house with you. Think of others, please, East Greenwich High School students, and take a shower.

In order to heave yourself out of this slump, you need a few things: a clean pair of underwear, a cell phone and some friends. That’s right, real live friends.  Now, this is where things get tricky. I don’t know if you’re like me - I am the one who always has to get everyone together, I’m the planner, the organizer. Gross. But it’s true.  One of my close friends said to me the other day that she just waits around for me to plan her summer for her - her parties and her beach trips - because she knows I will. Thanks a million. But it’s true, which is the sad part, it started way back in middle school, and it has only intensified since then. But hey, I can’t say I really mind it, it keeps me from getting bored. Frustrated? Maybe. But bored? Never.

Anyway, back on track here, you and your little bored complex need to go dig up some friends and do something. Go to the beach (Roger Wheeler was really nice last Wednesday), go to a movie, go for a walk, anything. Hey, its Fourth of July weekend, go see some fireworks, have a barbeque. Just get out, go and enjoy your summer.
