Fred Astaire Dance Studios – East Greenwich Shines at Colonial Classic Dancesport Competition

Fred Astaire Dance Studios – East Greenwich proudly attended the Colonial Classic Dancesport Competition held May 7–9, 2026, at the beautiful Mystic Marriott Hotel in Groton, Connecticut. This prestigious interregional event, open to Fred Astaire Dance Studios from across the country, was the largest competition of its kind to date, featuring more than 15,000 individual dance entries.

The four-day event was packed with excitement, entertainment, and incredible dancing. Competitors, instructors, and spectators enjoyed an action-filled weekend celebrating the art of ballroom dance. One of the highlights of the competition included the Top Teacher Award, with the winning instructor receiving a three-year lease on a brand-new car.

Fred Astaire Dance Studios – East Greenwich was thrilled to be represented by student Lisa Purcell, who competed in her very first ballroom dance competition. Despite being a first-time competitor at such a large and prestigious event, Lisa delivered an outstanding performance, earning first place in many of her categories.

“We are incredibly proud of Lisa and all the hard work she put into preparing for this event,” said the East Greenwich studio team. “Her success is a wonderful example of what can be achieved through dedication, confidence, and the joy of dance.”
