Crash at Frenchtown Road and Route 2 Sends Two to Hospital

Brett J. Thompson, 36, of Voluntown, Conn., was charged with Driving under the Influence and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test.

EAST GREENWICH, RI—A Jamestown woman went to the hospital after her car was slammed by a driver who ran a red light at the intersection of Route 2 and Frenchtown Road, police said.

Alice Adler was transported to Rhode Island Hospital after she complained about head and neck pain. She told police she was traveling south on Route 2 in the left lane. She had a green light and was approaching the intersection when another driver ran a red light. She was unable to avoid the collision, she said.

Brett Thompson, of Voluntown, Conn., also was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. He complained about stomach pains.

Two witnesses told police Thompson ran the red light. One witness said he passed her and was traveling about 60 mph. The speed limit is 35 mph, police said.

Police charged Thompson with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol, first offense, and Refusal to Submit to a Chemical Test. He was also cited for failing to stop at the light and for driving with an open container, police said.
