East Greenwich 2012 Election Guide
Candidate season has begun – the District 30 House seat is open, all five Town Council seats and three School Committee seats are up. EG Patch will be following it all.

With election season upon us, East Greenwich Patch is devoted to bringing you the information you need about town races and those state races that effect us. Here are some of the candidates and races we'll be covering as November draws near. Bookmark this page for updates.
House District 30 race: The seat long held by Bob Watson is up for grabs for the first time in 20 years, after . So far, two people have said they plan to run: and . But GOP Town Committee Chair Chuck Newton said he wouldn't be surprised if another Republican jumped into the race now that Watson's not running.
Town Council: Town Councilors are elected to two-year terms so all five seats are up this election year. So far, Councilmen Michael Isaacs (president), Mark Gee, and Jeff Cianciolo have indicated they will seek re-election. Other members of the council – Henry Boezi (vice president) and Michael Kiernan – have not made their plans public. All five members are Republicans.

School Committee: Three out of seven seats on the EG School Committee are up for election this year. The terms of Deidre Gifford (chair), Bob Durant (vice chair), and Paul Martin are up. Durant has said he will not seek re-election. Gifford, a Democrat, and Martin, a Republican, have not yet made their plans public.
Senate District 35 race: Sen. Dawson Hodgson, a Republican, is running for re-election, but his district has from EG, NK, and Warwick to EG, NK, SK, and Narragansett. , who lives in North Kingstown.

Senate District 33 race: This seat has also changed a bit in redistricting, swapping out Warwick for West Greenwich. Coventry remains the largest block of the district, with part of north-western East Greenwich. Republican Glen Shibley of Coventry won the seat two years ago, but , who held the seat for many years before stepping down two years ago to run unsuccessfully for Secretary of State. Raptakis, a Democrat, is also from Coventry.
