EAST GREENWICH, RI — The emergency ballot period for those who missed the regular mail ballot period in East Greenwich runs through election day on Sept. 8.

Residents can come to town town hall on Main Street for an emergency mail ballot or to vote early in person for the state primary election.

Appointments are encouraged for voting before the Sept. 8 primary date by calling 886-8603.

For in-person voting, voters will be asked to check in through giving their name, address and presenting a photo ID, and will be asked to confirm their party affiliation, before their voting.

For emergency mail-in voting, voters will be asked to fill out the proper application and they will receive a ballot with an oath envelope and postage-paid return envelope. It is then up to the voter to make sure the ballot is received at East Greenwich Town Hall or the Rhode Island Board of Elections by 4 p.m. on Sept. 8.

Voters may also authorize someone to pick up a ballot for them through a special application. The voter then has the responsibility to return the ballot by 4 p.m. on Sept. 8.

Ballots picked up in advance of the election will not be accepted at the polling location on Sept. 8, and must be brought to the town clerk's office at town hall, or state election office in Cranston.
