East Greenwich Restaurants Fight AIDS Today

The recent public health emergency due to HIV infections in Indiana is a reminder that HIV and AIDS are still a threat.

“HIV cases have been rising in Rhode Island, we must remember,” said AIDS Project RI executive director Stephen Hourahan. “We’re not facing what Indiana is facing, but we need to be vigilant. People need to get tested for HIV, practice safe sex, and take other steps to help the state reach its goal of zero new HIV infections.” HIV is the virus that can lead to AIDS.

Funding testing programs and services is also key, and one way to do that is through participating in “Dining Out for Life” at many restaurants in the Rhode Island area on Thursday, April 30. Part of breakfast, lunch or dinner bills will be directed to AIDS Project RI.

Two East Greenwich restaurants will be participating: Grille on Main, 50 Main Street, and Tio Mateo’s, 537 Main Street.

Greg Esposito, restaurant general manager for the Marra Restaurant Group, said that Grille on Main is supporting AIDS Project RI throughout April. “During the month of April, the Grille on Main will again be supporting AIDS Project RI to help raise awareness about AIDS,” he said. “The Grille on Main will be participating in Dining Out for Life on April 30th , as well as serving up drinks specials and collecting donations for the entire month. ”

Tio Mateo’s Ross DiSegna, who recently became owner of the business after several years working there, is looking forward to Dining Out for Life. “We’re happy to help out the community!”

AIDS Project RI development director Julie Casimiro thanked Tio Mateo’s and Grille on Main for their support, and noted that a complete list of restaurants across the state is available at www.aidsprojectri.org. “We’re asking people to visit our website to get the complete list of restaurants, which will continue to grow up to the day of the event,” she said.
