East Greenwich Woman Reports Stolen 1.7 Carat Diamond

A Sycamore Drive woman reported the disappearance of a 1.7 carat princess cut diamond from her fireplace mantle recently.

According to a police report, the woman reported the disappearance on March 26 after she looked inside the antique jewelry box the day before and saw the diamond was gone.

The woman told police she checks the box twice a day and believed it might have been stolen by someone who had done work in the house on March 24.

Police said the diamond is valued at about $7,000.

Police are investigating.
