EG Boys Hoops Top Moses Brown, 62-52
After a foul-heavy first half, the Avengers focused on scoring in the second.
Down by six points at the half, the Avengers Boys Basketball team came back to beat the Quakers 62-52 Friday night. Brandon Eckles, a sophomore standout, was the night’s high scorer, with 18 points for EG.
Possibly too pumped up by the large, cheering crowd that turned out for the third annual White Out game, the Avengers ran into foul trouble early, receiving more than a dozen fouls to the Quakers’ three in the first half, which ended with EG down 32-26 at the half.
In the second half, the Avengers came back. Junior David Hopkins made three 3-pointers in a row, the last one tying the score. That was all EG needed. From there, they were able to pile on the points and widen their lead.
Sophomore Ben Chester went 5 for 5 at the free throw line in the second half, with 7 points overall. Hopkins scored 14 points.
Other scorers were junior Ryan Gavin, 10 points; senior Scott Cullinane, 9 points (5 for 7 at the line); and junior Kyle Palmer, 4 points.
The D-III Avengers are 3-2 on the season. They play again on Monday at home against Exeter/West Greenwich at 7 p.m.
