EG Field Hockey Captures Rainy Win Over NK, 3-0

Avenger defense was so strong, the Skippers didn't get one shot on goal

The rain started about the same time as the clock for EG’s home game against longtime field hockey rival North Kingstown Thursday evening under the lights on Carcieri Field.

It started with a drizzle, then developed into a steady rain. But that didn’t deter the Avengers from winning handily, with a score of 3-0.

EG's defensive was so effective that the action was mostly around North’s goal. In fact, that the Skippers didn’t get one shot on goal the entire game.

It was a “great defensive effort,” said EGHS coach Deb McMullen. “The combination of Andie Coutoulakis, Julia Elson, Keri Pallister, Liz Colaviata and Phoebe Hughes did not allow for an NK shot on goal!”

On offense, Avenger Marielle Kraft, a junior, scored one goal in the first half, assisted by Katie Sloat, and another in the second half, assisted by Caroline Neupauer. Junior Keri Pallister had the third goal, assisted by Taylor Christie.

The win improves East Greenwich’s record to 4-0 on the season. The Avengers next game is Wednesday against Lincoln away. Lincoln is also undefeated so far.

North Kingstown is 2-1 on the season. The Skippers play Marr College High School from Scotland in an exhibition game on Saturday at 7 p.m. at home.
