EG Man Catches Record-Setting Striped Bass Off Block Island

Peter Vican smashes his old state record.

If you heard that the new state record striped bass was hauled in earlier this month off Block Island, you're spot on. What you may not have realized is that it was caught by EG's own Peter Vican.

This monster was caught early Sunday morning, June 19. Vican surpasses the previous Rhode Island record. What's more, its his own record that he's replacing.

The catch was brought to the Snug Harbor Marina to be officially weighed, and came in at a whopping 77.4 pounds.  The fish measures 52 inches long, and has a 35-inch girth. Vican's previous record fish weighed in at 76 pounds, 14 ounces and was 54 inches long.  Vican caught his previous record-holder in 2008.

Vican told onlookers only that he caught the fish on an eel off the Southwest tip of Block Island, but would not comment further.
