EG Parks and Rec. Announces Fall Programs

There's something for everyone.

The East Greenwich Parks & Recreation Department has announced its 2014 Fall programs. Registration will begin on line and for all prior mailed and hand delivered paper registration forms, on August 25, 2014. If you need an online account set up you must do that by submitting the online request form ahead of time, so come the first day of registration you are all set to go. Paper registration forms should be delivered prior to August 25th and will be placed in a box to be drawn lottery style on August 25th. Session one begins September 8, 2014. Most classes have a limited enrollment, so early registration is suggested.

Youth athletic and fitness programs include Squeaky Sneakers on Tuesdays from 9:30-10:15am for ages 2-3½ where children will learn to follow directions and develop their fine and gross motor skills. All Sports on Tuesdays from 10:30-11:30am for ages 3-5 will have children learning a different sport/ activity each week. Youth Gymnastics for beginners is offered for children ages 1-5 and focuses on the proper techniques in tumbling, balance and more. Classes are held on Thursdays for the 1-3 year olds at 9:30am, the 3-5 year olds at 10:05am. Little Yoga for 3-6 year olds will be held on Wednesdays from 3:45-4:30pm. Self Defense for 6-12 year olds takes place on Tuesday afternoons where basic moves in the art of self-defense will be taught. Skateboarding Lessons for children ages 8-12 is held on Tuesday from 4:00-5:00pm. Youth Tennis Lessons, on Tuesdays will take place from 4:00-5:00pm for ages 5-6 and 5:00-6:00pm for 7-8 years old. Classes will also be held on Thursdays for children 9-10 years old from 4:00-5:00pm and for children ages 11 & up from 5:00-6:00pm.

Youth Arts and Learning programs include What’s Out There? A nature exploration class on Monday from 1:30-2:15pm for ages 3-5. Broadway Babies is a musical theater class for preschoolers on Tuesdays from 9:15-10:15am for ages 4-6. Picture Book Theater takes a popular children’s book and brings it to life for children ages 4-6 years on Mondays at 9:15am. Children 3-5 should come spend the afternoon creating art projects in Messy Crafts on Wednesdays from 1:30-2:15pm. Family Music Time is a time for children ages 1-5 along with their parent to be introduced to singing, chants, listening, patterns and instrument play. Class is held Wednesdays from 9:30-10:15am. Also Tuesday afternoons from 4-5:30pm for children 7-12, The Drama Games begins, a fast paced competitive theater experience in which kids form into teams for a variety of improvisational games and tasks. In Ten Minutes Plays, come and get a taste of the theater while working several short plays. Children 7-12 years will get a speaking part in one or more 10-minute plays. Class meets on Wednesdays from 4-5:30pm. Come try Engineering 101, where children will be able to work with 100,000 pieces of Legos and build engineer designed projects such as boats, bridges, mazes and motorized cars. Class is held for children in grades 3-5 on Thursdays from 4:00-5:30pm. A four day EG Babysitter’s Class will be offered for children ages 10 & up. Youths will be certified in first aid and CPR. This class will teach safe sitting techniques and qualities that make up a good sitter. Class is held October 20th & 27th and November 10th from 3:45-5:15pm at the Parks and Recreation office, and November 3rd from 9-1pm.

Adult and Senior Programs include Body Conditioning on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays from 9-10am for an aerobic workout. Yoga Stretch is offered on Mondays at 10:05am where participants will receive a full body stretch to keep you limber and flexible using yoga basics. Define Yourself! classes are held Wednesdays and Fridays from 10-10:45am. This class develops strength and core stability to keep you agile and strong. Zumba Fitness is offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:15-6:15pm and Saturdays at 9:30am, where participants will fuse hypnotic Latin and international music for a fun and effective aerobic dance workout. Yoga for Beginners on Fridays from 9:15-10:30am will help lengthen and strengthen your muscles while improving balance, posture and flexibility. Stretch & Relax will include a full body stretch with a gentle and slow flow of static stretches and breathing on Thursdays at 9:15am. Adult Tennis Lessons are offered on Tuesdays for Beginner from 9:30-10:30am and for Intermediate players from 10:30-11:30am. The Ramblers- Hiking Group departs each Thursday from Frenchtown Park starting September 11th up until November 13th at 9:00am. First Aid, CPR & AED Classes take place October 1st (CPR &AED) from 6-9pm and October 8th (first aid) from 6-8pm for ages 16 & over.

Adult and Senior trips for the Fall season include The Big E for Rhode Island Day on Tuesday, September 16th from 8:30-4:30pm, a tour of the Beavertail Lighthouse Museum on Tuesday, October 7th from 9:30-12:30pm., and a visit to the Haffenreffer Museum display at Brown University on Tuesday, November 4th from 9:30-11:45am.

Athletic Pick up nights start up again with the High School aged basketball on Wednesdays from 8-10pm, a Men’s 21-34 Pick- Up Basketball on Tuesday nights from 8:30-10pm, a Men’s 35+ Pick-Up Basketball on Monday nights from 8-10pm, a Co-ed 18 and up Pick-up Volleyball on Tuesday nights from 6:30-8:30pm, and an Adult Pick-Up Soccer on Wednesdays from 7:30-9pm. Pre-Registration is required for all athletic nights.

Do not delay in signing up for these classes and programs, as they do fill quickly. Flyers were mailed to East Greenwich residents the week of August 11th.
