Photos: EG's Fastpitch Softball Team Wins State Championship
The championship game last weekend was a triumphant finish after a great season.
The scoring happened early and late in the game ... with lots of defense in the middle. In the end, the EGHS Girls Fastpitch Softball team beat West Warwick, 2-1, but the game provided just enough of a late-game rally by the Wizards to give Avenger fans a few gray hairs.
EG scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, on hits by Mollie Anderson, Lauren Duvall, and Karen Lockhart. The score stayed that way until two outs into the top of the sixth inning, when EG made a couple unforced errors and West Warwick was able to score a single run.
EG managed to get the third out and win the state championship for the second year running. Captain Mollie Anderson was named Most Valuable Player.
