EG Town Council Adjourns Meeting Early: Offers Salary & Overtime Info

The Town Council said the teachers union and the firefighters union disrupted the meeting Monday night.

EAST GREENWICH, RI — The East Greenwich Town Council adjourned its Monday night meeting early. In a message to residents, the council said the reason was due to "tremendous discord and disruption" from the rank and file in the teachers' and the firefighters' union. According to the meeting agenda, the councilors had intended to hold a joint meeting with the school committee. It also intended to discuss firefighters' salaries and overtime. The council said it is trying to "prevent inflated salaries that burden taxpayers." Councilors also provided a department by department breakdown showing unaudited overtime pay and data about salaries over $50,000 and over $100,000.
