EGHS Hockey Win Streak Ends; Loses to SK 3-1
The Avengers played Friday Night 7pm at the URI ice arena against South Kingston High School. East Greenwich lost 3 to 1.
The Avenger hockey squad looked to extend their winning streak to 3 in a row against the South Kingston Rebels. But SK had been on a winning streak of its own, winning its last eight games, and continued that streak to nine in a row in beating EGHS 3 to 1.
The first period started off at a high intensity and the Avengers were able to keep up. They had numerous scoring chances but they were not able to put any in. Defensively, East Greenwich was able to shut down the powerful Rebel offense and keep the score 0 to 0.
The second period was also played at a high pace and, despite missing some players, the Avs stayed in it. Then, just one minute and five seconds into the second period South Kingston scored on a breakaway.

East Greenwich fought back hard and drew 3 penalties during that period. One of which became a 2 man advantage for EG. The Avengers were able to come back and score to tie the game at 1. The goal came from Kevin Mason assisted by Alex Fontaine and Merrick Villenueve.
In the third period, EGHS had numerous chances to put the puck in the net but were unable to score. Then halfway through the period the Avs broke down and South Kingston scored to make the score 2 to 1.

The Avengers tried to fight back but couldn't score on a power play they obtained. EG also tried pulling the goalie and trying to put an extra player out to score however South Kingston was able to get an ope net goal.
The final score of the game was 3 to 1. The Rebels extended their winning streak to nine games. Conor Finn stopped 23 of the 25 shots he faced and the Avenger squad fought hard despite having a small bench. They look to come back on Wednesday February 9 against Prout at URI at 8pm.
