EGHS Sailing Team Swamped By Barrington

Flukey winds and sizable chop favored the Eagles who swept the best of 5 regatta.

It was practically over as soon as it started.  With the winds gusting to 15 knots, each of the 3 races between East Greenwich and Barrington High School Sailing Teams barely took 15 minutes to complete. Unfortunately, they all ended with Barrington on top.

At times, the more diminutive East Greenwich students did all they could to keep from being blown over while their East Bay counterparts, with greater mass, were able to keep their boats "flat" (not heeling over excessively) and fast.

"They haven't had as much practice in heavy winds," said EGHS Coach Eleanor Lawson.

The loss was EG's first after two wins last week.

The next race is in Greenwich Cove today at 3 p.m. against Rocky Hill and can be watched from the Goddard Park Beach.
