
The East Greenwich High School boys and girls outdoor track teams are heading into their final weekend of competition, culminating at Saturday’s R.I. State Meet starting at 12:30 p.m. at Brown University.
Senior standout Jaimee Dorsey has a chance to sweep three events and break the Rhode Island girls state meet records in the 100, 200 and 400 meters. The boys are led by senior Chris Millman, owner of the third-fastest 800 meter time in the state (1:58.7) and sixth best 1500 meters with a time of 4:07.6.
Both teams enjoyed success the past two weekends, starting at the Girls Class C Championships held on May 19, where the Lady Avengers placed first among 12 teams with 115 points.

Senior Jaimee Dorsey set a new meet and school record in the 200 meters with a 24.8 performance. She followed it up in the 400 meters by running 56.6 – another meet and school record. Dorsey tops the state performance list for the season at both distances with these two stellar times. Joining Dorsey in the 400 meters was sophomore standout Phoebe Osterhout running 1:02.6, good for fourth place and provisionally qualifying her for the state meet.
Freshman Jen Sarazen and junior Mikayla Baiocchi ran 13.4 and 13.8 for the 100 meters, placing third and sixth respectively. Senior Allie Davis placed second in the 800 meters with a 2:24.6 followed by freshman Kaley McMullen in sixth with a personal best of 2:38.1.

Freshman Margaret McCaffrey won the 1500 meters in 5:07.9 followed by senior Katie Sloat in seventh with a 5:32.9. Rebecca Nunez was victorious in the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 48.0, qualifying her for the state meet and she placed third in the 100 meter hurdles in a time of 16.80.
In the relays, the Lady Avengers placed first in both the 4x100 meter relay in 50.80 and 4x400 relay in 4:08.20, both season best times. In the field events, junior Victoria Messier placed fifth with a 6-06 performance followed by freshman Emily Ferguson in seventh vaulting 6 feet.
Sophomore Summer Murray placed in both the shot put and discus throw; her 28-01 toss was good for 6th place and a throw of 96-02 earned her third place in the discus. Freshman Lauren Swanson placed third in the hammer throw with a 122-07.50 and senior Rachel Basso placed 4th in the javelin with a toss of 80-08.
At the Boys Class C Championships the Avengers scored solid victories and placed 2nd out of 12 teams with 86 points. Senior Chris Millman led a 1-2-3 sweep in the 1500 meters in 4:12.40, followed by sophomore Garrett Scanlon in 4:18.00 and junior Scott Kulm in 4:22.50. Millman captured the 800 meters in 2:03.8 and was part of the winning 4x400 relay in 3:32.50 (Caleb Gladstone, Dylan Manning and Brenden Higgins ran the other legs).
More victories followed in the 200 meter dash with Dylan Manning crossing the line first in 22.70. Teammate Raymond Reyes placed fifth in 24.50. Manning also led off the victorious 4x800 relay in 8:34.50 with help from Ben Fazio, Scott Kulm, and Nate Waddell. The Avengers picked up 14 points in the 3000 meters with second and third place finishes by Kulm and Fazio in 9:25.70 and 9:27.70. Gladstone also helped out team scoring with a fourth place in the 400 meters (51.70). Rounding out team scoring was senior Trevor Larochelle with a fifth place in the hammer throw with a 149-11 toss.
The Lady Avengers put in some impressive performances at the Mt. Pleasant Qualifier Meet on May 26. Senior Jaimee Dorsey won the in the 400 meters in her best time of 56.20 to tie the state record from 1999. Rebecca Nunez placed second in the 300 meter hurdles in 47.10. Both are automatic qualifying times for Saturday’s state meet. Joining these two star performers will be Allie Davis, who ran 2:21.4 to place fourth in the 800 meters. Other top performances include Rachel Basso’s sixth place javelin throw at 96-10.
The boys team geared up for the state meet at the 48th Annual Hendricken Invitational this past Saturday. Chris Millman led the way, automatically qualifying for states with a third place finish in the 800 meters in 1:58.7. Caleb Gladstone ran a 51.7 in the 400 meters placing sixth. Ben Fazio and Scott Kulm ran 4:09.8 and 4:15.5 in the boys 1500 meter run. The Avengers look to have a solid future in the mid-distance events as six boys turned in solid times in the freshman and sophomore 1500 meter runs, led by frosh Tommy Sommer (4:25.7) and sophomore Graham Chapski (4:24.1).
“The boys had a solid showing at the Hendricken Invitational. Many of the guys ran PR's. It was a good lead up for the state meet at Brown this weekend,” said head coach Peter Dion.
