East Greenwich’s Janice Cooney has been awarded a prestigious award.

Cooney, senior director of customer development at Johnson & Johnston, was awarded the Executive Master of Healthcare Leadership from Brown University.

With the award, Cooney “joins an elite group of high-profile executives and professionals from across the health industry who are transforming healthcare by addressing the compelling challenges of access, quality and sustainability,” according to a Brown University release.

Cooney was awarded the EMHL degree by the School of Professional Studies at Brown University’s 250th graduation ceremony in May 2015.

Cooney completed a Critical Challenge Project entitled, Education Leads to Patient Satisfaction: Leveraging organizational assets to deliver a coordinated care plan. With their individual Critical Challenge Projects drawn from their work settings, EMHL students transfer knowledge and skills acquired in the program, and create immediate, tangible benefits for their organizations.

Cooney is a resident of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, and works with the CVS team at Johnson & Johnson Sales & Logistics Company. Prior to joining Johnson & Johnson in 2006, she worked for Pfizer Consumer Healthcare as Manager in Strategic Pharmacy. Cooney earned a Bachelor of Science in Advertising from the Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University, and completed the Leadership Edge Program through Smith College Executive Education for Women.

We’re excited to see the impact she and her classmates will have as health industry leaders,” said Karen Sibley, Vice President for Strategic Initiatives, and Dean of the School of Professional Studies at Brown University.

Each year, the EMHL program attracts a professionally diverse cohort who completes the 16-month graduate program of online and face-to-face learning and form a lifelong professional network. The EMHL inaugural Class of 2015 was comprised of 28 senior healthcare professionals from 14 US states. They entered the program with an average 18 years of professional experience, and 60% had an advanced degree.
