After owning and operating Kenneth Cote' Salon at 333 Main Street for more than 40 years, I am proud to announce that I have joined the Shimmer Salon &amp; Day Spa team at 500 Main Street in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Following a series of surgeries and recoveries, along with the loss of my longtime administrative coordinator and dear friend, Richard Bump, I found myself at a point of reflection and transition. I made the decision to redirect my career from salon ownership toward something that has always been at the center of who I am: continuing to cultivate my craft as a Hair Artist and educator. As I return to Main Street, my intention is simple: to reconnect with the skills, creativity, and level of care that built my reputation over decades, while offering you the opportunity to reimagine the experience and quality I can bring to your sense of style. I have always taken pride in helping clients leave with a greater understanding of their hair than when they first sat in my chair. Hair has never simply been about appearance; it has always been about connection, education, and trust. After years of experience, one thing remains unchanged: every service begins with a pair of ears before a pair of shears. Life has brought its share of challenges over recent years — personal loss, physical setbacks, and significant change. Those experiences have reshaped me, but they have also clarified something important: I am returning to the place where I truly belong. After nearly five decades in this industry, I am not stepping backward into who I once was; I am stepping forward as who I am today — a distilled version of those years of experience, with greater focus, stronger purpose, and a deeper appreciation for what matters most. Registered Nurse Rhonda Brunnero will be coming from the Visiting Nurses Services of Home Health Services to  today from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. to test heart rates and blood pressure.  Testing for O2 blood saturation and blood glucose will be available for $1.  The community center is located at 111 Peirce Street. For more information, call Erin at 401-886-8669, ext.1.

NORTH KINGSTOWN, RI — Get your running shoes and lederhosen ready! The annual OktoberVets 5K and German Festival is officially coming to town on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Proudly sponsored by the North Kingstown VFW Post 152, this highly anticipated community event combines fitness, culture, and a deep appreciation for our local veterans.
Since 2017, VFW Post 152 has hosted this premier fundraising event to support its vital community work. As an official non-profit organization, 100% of the race entry fees go directly toward funding critical veteran advocacy, assistance programs, and outreach initiatives managed by the post. Now in its ninth year, the event has become a staple of Rhode Island's autumn calendar, turning miles into meaningful support for those who served.
The festivities kick off sharply at 10:00 AM. Runners, walkers, and strollers are all welcome on the scenic 5K course, making it a fully accessible event for competitive athletes and families alike. Participants will wind through the historic heart of Wickford Village, enjoying beautiful waterfront views and colonial charm along the way. All registered participants will receive excellent race swag, including an official event t-shirt and a custom finisher medal.
Immediately following the race, the celebration shifts gears into a lively, family-friendly German Festival. Attendees can look forward to an authentic celebration featuring a festive local beer garden and grilled bratwurst served up directly by the VFW crew.
Whether you are looking to set a new personal record on the pavement, earn some great new race gear, or simply enjoy a festive autumn day by the water with great food, the OktoberVets 5K and German Festival has something for everyone.
