Good Weather Boosts Bunny Hop 5K
The race/walk at Goddard Park to benefit the EG Track Club had close to 400 participants.
EG phys ed teacher and track coach Peter Dion was already making calculations in his head about improvements for next year, but participants in Saturday’s first-annual EG Track Club Bunny Hop 5K at Goddard Park seemed to be enjoying the event just fine.
In fact, so many people participated — around 400, according to estimates — they didn’t have enough t-shirts for everyone. They only ordered 300 t-shirts, thinking that would be plenty. And maybe it would have been, if the weather had been cold and rainy. But Saturday was sunny, with temperatures in the 60s. Families came out in droves.
The morning started with a 1-mile fun run, followed by an egg hunt. The 500 eggs were scooped up in less than two minutes. The main event featured many EGHS track regulars. Although the top finisher was Eric Lonergan of North Kingstown, EG's Scott Kulm grabbed the number two spot, followed by Ben Fazio, also from EGHS.
The top female finisher was EG Patch blogger Sharon Siedliski — yay Sharon! (You can read about her love of running here.)
