Governor Raimondo, Other Officials Tour Main Street

The Town received $32,400 to repair sidewalks and improve the street trees on Main Street.

EAST GREENWICH, RI -- East Greenwich has long claimed one of the best main streets in Rhode Island, but things always could be better, according to the Town and the state Commerce Corporation.

Last spring, the Town received $32,400 from the Main Street Rhode Island Streetscape Improvement Fundto repair the sidewalks and "improve the street trees," according to the press release.

Tomorrow, Gov. Gina Raimondo will take a walking tour with other officials to highlight the program.

This year, the fund received 18 applications, and seven, including East Greenwich, were successful. Central Falls received the most money and collected $300,000 for a public art installation to hide overhead wires, along with "façade improvements" along Dexter Street and free Wifi for the commercial district. East Greenwich received the least money.

The governor's tour starts at 2 p.m. at the Post Office.
