Gun Used in North Providence Murder was Stolen from Retired EG Police Officer

The state crime lab was able to restore serial numbers.

A gun used in a recent North Providence murder was stolen two years ago from a retired police captain’s East Greenwich home.

North Providence Police said the gun, a Sig Sauer P220 .45 caliber handgun, was used to kill Richard Catalano, 26, and was stolen from the house of the officer during a break-in in November of 2012.

The department-issued gun was traced to the breaking and entering incident thanks to the efforts of the state crime lab. There, investigators were able to restore serial numbers.
