Ind. Joe Trillo Slams 'Progressive Democrats' On Immigration

From Joe Trillo: Independent candidate for Rhode Island governor Joe Trillo says Progressive Democrats locally and nationally are using federal laws, which were implemented by the Obama administration before Trump, to vilify President Trump’s “zero-tolerance” policy for U.S. border protection.

“What is happening at the U.S. Mexico border has been happening for years. When immigrants illegally walk or drive across our border seeking asylum, they are detained so law enforcement officials can identify them and try to find out if they have a criminal background. During this time, they need to separate children from adults and house them separately, for their own safety. Any law enforcement official will tell you, under no circumstances, can you house adults and children together, as children can fall prey to child molesters, and rapists,” said Trillo.

“The children are not in “cages” as is being reported by Progressives. They are secured behind a chain-link fence, with a roof over their heads, have access to bathroom facilities, are being fed three meals a day, and have medical staff available to them twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Until their parents are identified, the children cannot be put in a high risk area with unidentified adults. God forbid a child was killed or raped by another adult, as they were kept in the same area, then the Trump administration would be responsible for that,” he added.

“Saying that children are being detained in “cages” is a lie and a ridiculous argument, which wrongfully has the country up in arms, suiting the Progressive Democratic agenda, trying to turn the public against President Trump.”

“Here, in the state of Rhode Island, when a crime is committed and the police are called to the scene, adults are immediately detained or taken to the police station for questioning. Any children present at the scene are removed and detained by law enforcement or child protective services so that the police can get to the bottom of the situation. Doesn’t anyone see that it’s the same system? It is, but Progressive Democrats such as Governor Gina Raimondo and David Cicilline are sensationalizing what happens in most every state in our country, for their own purposes, during a mid-term election year,” Trillo concluded.
