Martin, 2 Others Out Of Local Races
Paul Martin and Tony Jones fail to turn in enough signatures; Bill Wray withdraws.

I wrote this story based on results found on the R.I. Secretary of State's website Saturday. Two readers have alerted me the website has not updated its counts and, in at least two cases, the information was wrong. I have amended the story to reflect this, and will confirm with the Town Clerk's office Monday morning. I regret any inaccuracies. – EM
Friday was the deadline to submit signatures for candidates wishing to get their name on the ballot in November. Two candidates for local office – , and Tony Jones – failed to submit enough signatures; one candidate who did submit enough signatures – Bill Wray – has withdrawn.
With Martin and Wray out of the Republican race for School Committee, only .
On the Democratic side, according to the Secretary of State's website, Brian Warburton collected 46 of the needed 50 signatures. However, Warburton said Sunday morning he submitted 56 signatures to the Town Canvasser who told him Thursday he had 50 valid signatures. (EG Patch will check with the canvasser Monday to confirm.)
If Warburton is indeed still in the race, there will be a primary. : current School Committee Chair Deidre Gifford, and newcomers Carolyn Mark and Gene Quinn.

Independent School Committee candidate Domenic Marcone is also shown on the Secretary of State's website has having failed to turn in 50 signatures, but sources say he did in fact turn in enough to earn a place on the ballot.
For Town Council, five Republicans submitted the requisite number of signatures (at least 50): current Council President Michael Isaacs, Councilmen Michael Kiernan, Jeff Cianciolo, and Mark Gee, and . In addition, Moderate Jean Ann Guliano submitted enough signatures to earn a place on the ballot. No Democrats filed papers to run for Town Council.
In the Town Moderator race, only one candidate filed enough signatures to be added to ballot: incumbent James Patti. Libertarian candidate Tony Jones failed to submit the 50 signatures required to be on the ballot.
