Netwalking, About Bullying, & More
Five things you need to know about East Greenwich today, April 11.

EGHS Sports: The Unified Basketball team takes to the court tonight at 6:30 against Cranston East at the high school, with a special half-time exhibition of the brand-new Cole Unified Basketball team. Unified teams are made up of students with disabilities and non-disabled students. The idea is to foster relationships and build teamwork while working on sports skills. Go Avengers!
Netwalking: What is Netwalking, you ask? A super-cool initiative that seems to have begun right here in East Greenwich. Netwalking brings young people and career professionals together to network and share ideas, skills, and experiences. Creative and productive information exchange is facilitated while walking along a beach, hiking through the woods, or strolling around downtown. Tonight the group is meeting at Kon Asian Bistro at 6 p.m. and will walk to Scalloptown Park and back (by 7:30 p.m.). If the weather’s bad, they will just stay at Kon. Wear comfortable shoes and bring your business cards — if you have ‘em! Hosted by SBR Networking. If you are interested in learning more, click here.
Bullying: Signs, Solutions and Strategies: A panel discussion about bullying for students, parents, advocates, and the general public, with our own Bob Houghtaling as one of the panelists. Other panelists include Brigitte Berman, teen author of Dorrie's Witt's Guide to Surviving Bullying; Teny Gross, executive director of the Institute for the Study and Practice of Nonviolence; and Stephanie Chafee, R.N., founder of the R.I. Free Clinic, co-founder of Women Ending Hunger and R.I.'s first lady. Chafee will moderate the discussion. At the Providence Marriot, 1 Orms St., at 7 p.m. The cost is $5.
Board of Assessment Review meeting: The panel meets at Town Hall starting at 6 p.m.
Historic District Commission meeting: The meeting begins at 6 p.m. but public hearings don’t begin until 6:30. On the agenda are Main Street restaurants Filippou’s, which is seeking approval for new awning signage, and Besos Tea House, which wants to build an outdoor patio seating area.
