Nine Incidents Of Mailbox Vandalism Last Week, Police Report

It looks like the postal service will be making door-to-door deliveries to nine houses in the neighborhood surrounding Falcon Circle following reports of damaged and destroyed mailboxes at those residences.

The first reported vandalism came from a resident on Falcon Circle who reported that his lamp post had been take out of the ground and dragged approximately 10 feet across his grass the night of June 28. The lamp post did not appear damaged. According to the police report, the Falcon Circle resident said he had heard screeching tires earlier and voices in the yard and a loud metallic bang, as if a mailbox had been hit with a baseball bat. He looked outside and saw a man next to a large vehicle in front of his house. He got the license number of the car and proceeded to drive around looking for the car and noticed a neighbor's mailbox had also been damaged. The resident gave the number to the police.

When police contacted the owner of the vehicle, he stated that he had dropped his sons friend off in the area and that he had noticed someone following him. According to the report, the owner seemed very credible and police do not believe he was involved in the vandalisms. 

A resident of Tillinghast Road reported damage to his mailbox and stated that late the night before, he had heard a loud noise outside of his house. Police noted that the resident’s mailbox had a dent on the top which is consistent with it being struck with a baseball bat. 

All of the other victims in the surrounding neighborhood (on Laurel Wood Drive, River Run, Pheasant Drive and Tina Circle) discovered the damage on June 29. They reported that they had not heard anything during the night. They all said that their mailboxes had not been damaged the night before but that in the morning, they noticed the damage and they concluded it must have happened overnight. 

The damaged mailboxes are valued at a total of $2,650.
