Ohio State Honors Two Student-Athlete EGHS Alumni

Tom Davis (EGHS Class of 2008) and Lauren Eckles (Class of 2010) both had GPAs above 3.0 while competing in a NCAA Division I sport.


Two former East Greenwich High School athletes were honored recently the Ohio State University's Scholar Athlete dinner in Columbus, Ohio. Tom Davis (EGHS 2008) and Lauren Eckles (EGHS 2010) were among the Ohio State University athletes to maintain higher than 3.0 GPA while participating in a NCAA Division I sport. They were also honored by their conference. Both students were also named to the Academic All Big Ten Team for their academic achievements this year.

Tom, a fourth-year Buckeye, was a member of the Ohio State University Track and Field team. In his career at Ohio State, he has been chosen as a Scholar Athlete four times, and a was two-time Academic All Big Ten Selection. He has placed fourth at the Big Ten Conference Championship in the hammer throw, and is a member of one of the top throwing teams nationally in the 35 pound weight throwing class.

Lauren, a sophomore, is a member of the Ohio State University Women's Rowing Team. Lauren's boat (2V4) lost only once this this season in conference action and the Lady Buckeyes went on to end their season ranked fifth in the country. Lauren has been named as a Scholar Athlete the past two years, and was named a Academic All Big Ten selection for the first time this year.
