Pedestrian Killed by Amtrak Train

According to Amtrak, a train struck and killed a person on the tracks around 2:30 p.m.

EAST GREENWICH, RI -- An Amtrak train struck and killed a person on the tracks.

According to Mike Tolbert, Amtrak media relations, the accident happened around 2:32 p.m.

"Train 135, the Northeast Regional, en route from Boston to Washington, struck a person on the tracks," he said.

At the time, some 378 passengers were aboard. No one on the train was hurt.

"The train was held for several hours, while police investigated," he said. It was released at 4:55 p.m.

Tolbert could confirm the victim died but had no additional details.

East Greenwich police referred questions to Amtrak.
