Police Log: Thieves Raid CVS, Hissing Raccoon, Truck Vandalized

The following arrest and incident reports were provided by East Greenwich police. They do not indicate a conviction.

CVS TARGETED BY SHOPLIFTERS
East Greenwich police are investigating the theft of a large number of women’s and men’s hair care products, oral care products and other items from the CVS on South County Trail recently.

Police said a store manager reported the theft on Nov. 30 and said a man and woman entered the store and stuffed items into a bag before leaving.

Stolen were six boxes of Prevacid, four boxes of Crest White Strips, 10 boxes of Crest whitener, four boxes of Crest Vivid White Strips, 10 boxes of Crest Whitestrips 3D, a box of CVS brand teeth strips, 3 Gilette Venus razors, five boxes of Women’s Rogaine, 10 boxes of Men’s Rogaine, three Schick razors, seven Venus Embrace razors and 10 boxes of antacid tablets.

CRANK CALLS
On Nov. 24, East Greenwich police received a report of harassing phone calls at a Main Street business.

Police said a man called the business and threatened to kill employees in a voice message left on the company’s voicemail.

The man said his name was Heinz Guderian, which happens to be the name of a Wehrmacht General “who was a renowned expert of armored forces,” according to a police report.

Police are investigating.

WALLET STOLEN
A Warwick woman told police on Nov. 24 that someone stole her wallet two days earlier when she left it on the ground near the benches during a basketball game at Our Lady of Mercy.

Police said the woman left the school and came back when she realized she forgot it only to find someone had taken it.

The wallet contained $50 cash and various cards.

Police soon discovered that the card had been used several times at local businesses, though only a $15 charge at a bakery was approved. Three other attempted charges for several hundred dollars each at Walgreens and CVS were declined.

Police are investigating.

TOOTHBRUSHES STOLEN
Police are investigating the theft of two Oral-B Black 7000 toothbrushes from the CVS at 1285 South County Trail recently.

Police said the man walked into the store on Nov. 24 and hid the items in his jacket. He then left the store without attempting to pay.

Police are investigating.

B&E
Police charged Harris K. Moid, 18, of 95 River Farm Drive, East Greenwich, with breaking and entering and felony larceny Nov. 25 at 1:08 p.m.

Police said the incident occurred on Nov. 12 and turned himself in to police on Nov. 25.

ITEMS STOLEN FROM CAR
A Moosehorn Road resident told police on Nov. 25 that someone went into his car and stole some change and a set of keys.

Police said the suspect entered the unlocked vehicle and also took a checkbook but that was found in front of the house. An older blue CD player on a table outside on the front porch was also stolen, police said.

POLICE PUT DOWN INJURED DEER
A deer that was struck by a car at the intersection of Middle Road and South County Trail on Nov. 26 was put down by an officer suffering serious injuries.

Police said the deer was badly wounded and the officer used his department-issued shotgun to end its suffering with a single shot.

The state Department of Environmental Management was notified to retrieve the dead deer.

PURSE STOLEN FROM CAR
A Warwick woman reported to police on Nov. 26 that someone smashed the window to her Nissan Sentra and stole her purse from the front seat of the car while she was working out at Gold’s Gym at around 8 p.m.

Police said the woman was in the gym and got a call from West Warwick police to report that her purse was found at the Stop and Shop on Quaker Lane. She said that her purse was still in her car when she went into the gym and when she went outside to check, saw her window had been smashed.

Inside the purse was a driver’s license and assorted cards.

RABID RACCOON
East Greenwich police euthanized a rabid raccoon on Nov. 28.

Police said they were dispatched to Glenn Drive for a report of a rabid raccoon in the yard.

The racoon hissed at the officer and “appeared clearly rabid,” according to a police report.

The animal was destroyed with one shotgun round, police said.

DOMESTIC
Police charged Scott D. Hyland, 38, of 250 Adirondack Drive, East Greenwich, with domestic disorderly conduct and domestic simple assault Nov. 29 at around 9 a.m.

ATTEMPTED ARSON
East Greenwich Police are investigating an apparent arson attempt.

Police said someone appears to have set a fire in front of a garage door at a Frenchtown Road house.

The fire did not spread very far and left burn marks on the garage door. Police also observed a broken window panel.

The incident was reported on Nov. 30 and the resident said the damage wasn’t there the night before.

VANDALIZED TRUCK
Someone drew male genetalia and covered a Chevy Silverado with shaving cream outside a Forest Lane home recently.

Police said the owner reported the incident on Nov. 30, telling police that he was out of town and came home to find the damage.

Police said the offensive pictures were drawn on the driver’s side windows and doors.
