Volleyball statistics tout kills, but without good passes, kills are hard to come by. So it was Monday night, when EGHS played Prout at home. It wasn't always pretty, but Prout got the win, 3-2.
Prout is now 2-0 on the season. East Greenwich is 0-2.
"The play was pretty sloppy all night on both sides," conceded Prout coach Dan Greene. "East Greenwich did start to tighten it up in Games Two and Three - they passed better and served better."

The Avengers captured those two games but Prout pulled it together for the final two games.
"Our serving and passing got a little better," said Greene. "That was probably the difference all night."

Prout junior Jenna Walsh had 11 aces, senior Alexa Levesque and junior Brooke Sullivan each had 3 blocks; and junior Riley Martin had 6 aces.
"We have a pretty balanced attack," said Greene, noting that no player had more than a few kills during Monday night's game.
"Statistics-wise we weren't too high on the board," said Avenger coach Theresa Jones, "however, Julia Pelosi came out with 9 kills at the end of the match."
Jones credited Pelosi, a junior, noting that this was her first year playing varsity. "She has taken on her responsibility as a middle hitter with great maturity."
Jones also highlighted the contribution of freshman setter Phoebe Wong.
"She is a tremendous asset to the team," said Jones. "She brings experiences and a finesse for the game that we very rarely see as coaches in such a young athlete."
