Rocky Hill Brings On 'Entrepreneur-In-Residence'
Hannah Chung and her team at Providence-based Sproutel have been selected.

EAST GREENWICH, RI - From Rocky Hill School: Hannah Chung and her team at Providence-based Sproutel have been selected as Rocky Hill School’s permanent Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR). Having the Sproutel team as the School's EIR will offer Rocky Hill School students unprecedented access to a social venture that develops products to improve the lives of children and families with health-related concerns. The Sproutel team was named winner of the 2018 Tech For A Better World, at the 2018 Consumer Electronics Show.
“The team and I are very excited to be a part of the Rocky Hill School community as we innovate and develop products that empower people in their healthcare journey!” said Hannah Chung, founder of Sproutel.
During a visit by Ms. Chung to Rocky Hill School's third grade class last fall, the students designed plans for their own interactive stuffed animals that delivered health education to children. Working in groups, they created an elephant for children with cancer, a penguin for children with anxiety, and a frog that pediatricians can use to help pediatric patients feel comfortable and relaxed. Their prototype creations were presented to Ms. Chung and other entrepreneurs with hopes to collaborate in their support of children impacted by Type 1 Diabetes.
This student-centered and student-directed learning was inspired by real-world work in the medical start-up industry. During the session, the third grade students proved themselves to be conveners, collaborators, and idea generators who have the potential to significantly impact their communities and the world. They interviewed, posed questions, presented solutions, and engaged effectively with Ms. Chung and the other entrepreneurs.
