Scalloptown Park Is Open Again; Bike Path Nearly Complete

Funding for the project came from the state Department of Transportation.

, the stretch of land that begins at the bottom of Crompton Avenue, is open again after a six-week project to build a bike path. The park was , after it underwent an environmental cleanup in 2008-09.

The state Department of Transportation paid for the bike path, as part of a long-term plan to build a bike path system from North Kingstown to Warwick to East Greenwich and back into Warwick. The Town Council approved a $146,775.50 bid for the project by D'Ambra Construction in October.

"DOT has in their plans to go from old Forge Road across a bridge which they're going to install someday through Scalloptown Park and onto Crompton," said Public Works director Joe Duarte. "Crompton is already a bike path, an on-road bike path. So they wanted to connect that piece. They're not ready with their bridge but we were done so DOT gave us the money to pave that piece."
