Senior Night A Loss For Avenger Wrestlers

EGHS went up against Hope High School, falling 60-20.

It was a brave battle, but the EGHS wrestling team ended up losing to Hope HS  Thursday night, 60-20.

To start off the match, 96 pound Avenger Peter (P.J.) Brouillard was welcomed to the mat and went up against a boy likely 15 pounds heavier, who ended up  pinning PJ in the third round of their match.

But fellow freshmen Ebed Jarrell had his match in the bag. The young Avenger demonstrated superior wrestling moves; moves good enough to make audience comment that Ebed's opponent was just "doing a good job of not going on his back." Jarrell ended up winning his match 16-2 points, which would foreshadow his older brother Stephen's time on the mat. But until then, three Avenger boys got consecutively pinned, making the older Jarrell's match even more important.

The senior Avenger was welcomed to the mat with roaring applause and faced a boy that had an identical stature. Jarrell commanded the mat and ended his match quickly by pinning his opponent within the first round. The next and last Avenger victory came with Brenden Higgins, whose match came down to points.

Higgins wrestled against a boy whose best move was to 'shoot' for the lower legs, in the hopes to quickly get Brenden on his back. However, Higgins showed true Avenger strength and won the fiercely well-balanced match with a score of 4-2. Finally, while Matt Santos and Jimmy Boudreau demonstrated spectacular effort and skill, they both lost by points or pinning respectively.
