Solo Shakespeare & Steamed Up Volunteers
Five things you need to know about East Greenwich today, June 30.
Volunteer at NE Wireless & Steam: The New England Wireless and Steam Museum is chock-a-block full of the engines that drove our economy 75 to 100 years ago. Volunteers are welcome on Thursdays between 9am and 4:30pm., but they ask that you call ahead (885-0545) or email newsm@newsm.org for an appointment.
Shakespeare’s Greatest Hits: Solo performer Richard Clark performs his own take on the Bard’s best bits, encompassing 12 characters and 25 monologues and soliloquies, tonight in the courtyard at St. Luke’s Church (in the auditorium if the weather doesn’t cooperate). Clark grew up in East Greenwich and is a graduate of EGHS. He’s built his career in regional theater and solo performances. The evening is free and all are welcome. It starts at 7pm.
Zumba: The Senior Center at Swift features Zumba, a Latin music dance and exercise class, every Thursday from 1 to 2pm. The class is taught by Jackie Willsie and cost $2 for members and $3 for non-members.
Laser sailboat races: Every Thursday from 6 to 8pm, individuals take to the water in small sail boats called lasers and compete against each other. You don’t have to be an expert - if you do participate, however, you’ll learn a lot but still have fun. Organizers stress that having a good time is their primary goal. The races are organized out of the Greenwich Bay Sailing Association.
What’s coming up on EG Patch today: Look for a story with local comments on the binding arbitration bill that passed the Senate Labor Committee last night. Both School Committee Chairwoman Deidre Gifford and Town Council President Michael Isaacs testified at the Senate hearing in opposition to the bill. Also, the Get Out column this week covers the long holiday weekend.
