Summer Heat, Tennis Tournament and Softball

It's Tuesday today and technically the first work day this week because of the three-day weekend. Hopefully, we can help you start the work week out right. And guess what? After today, there are only three more work days!

Nurse check for seniors: Head to the Swift Community Center today from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the nurse clinic with Denise McFarland, a registered nurse from Dependable Healthcare Services, to have your blood pressure and heart rate checked. Tests for blood saturation with O2 and blood glucose screenings will be available for $1. 

Recalling the Warwick Musical Theatre: Head to the Warwick Museum of art today from 12 p.m to 4 p.m., as they celebrate the legacy of the Warwick Musical Theatre with a historical exhibit which included memorabilia from the personal collection of Larry Bonoff, and a screenings of the Emmy nominated documentary The Tent: Life in the Round. The museum is free and open to all. 

Tennis anyone? The International Hall of Fame in Newport will be holding Campbell’s Hall of Fame Tennis Championships today through Sunday. This is the only professional tournament held on grass courts in North America. Fans can expect an exciting week on the courts, as the field features some of this season’s top tennis newsmakers, including No. 1 American Mardy Fish, the world’s fastest server, Ivo Karlovic, and rising star Ryan Harrison. There will also be free tennis lessons happening today during the tournament. 

Softball championship: The EG girls softball team is playing in the 11/12 softball district championship against Westerly National at EGHS starting at 5:30. If EG wins tonight, they are district champions. If they lose, they get another chance to beat Westerly on Thursday. Come cheer on the local team.

Heating up: Be prepared for some heat today! It will likely get up to about 90 degrees with a low of 63 degrees. It’ll be partly sunny so make sure you bathe the kids in sunscreen before you send them outside!
