AI Explained: Turning to chatbots for therapy (wpri.com) — An AI expert’s latest segment for WPRI, produced out of East Providence, digs into why more people are turning to chatbots for mental health support and what that means for traditional therapy. She urges viewers to take a balanced approach, neither fully embracing nor rejecting AI tools, and invites locals to watch recurring “AI Explained” episodes on the station’s streaming app.
3. RI study offering free screenings identified liver damage in 11 participants (wpri.com) — A Brown University public health study highlighted from East Providence found liver damage in 11 of just 14 Rhode Islanders who accepted free screenings at a community clinic. Local viewers are urged to recognize that liver disease often has no symptoms and to consider getting screened, with a full interview on the findings available through WPRI’s 12 News at 4.
4. Rhode Island Gun Bill Would Ban Possession of Assault Weapons (rinewstoday.com) — East Providence residents are directly represented in a sweeping package of Rhode Island gun bills, including a proposal to ban possession of certain semi-automatic firearms and another to hold the firearm industry more accountable. Lawmakers will hear nearly 20 weapons and animal-protection bills today at the State House, with debates expected over enforcement, constitutional questions, and how far new restrictions should go.
