1. Providence Man Hospitalized And Charged With DUI After Crash: Cops (patch.com) — East Providence readers are learning more about a serious early-morning crash on I-195 that left a Providence man hospitalized and facing a DUI charge. State police say the 33-year-old was treated at Rhode Island Hospital and released with a notice to appear in court, underscoring ongoing concerns about impaired driving on local highways.
2. East Providence agrees to rent new middle school to local church for $250K (eastbayri.com) — East Providence’s School Committee has approved a two-year, $250,000 deal allowing BridgePoint Christian Church to use the new Martin Middle School on Sundays, channeling most of the rent into a capital fund for school repairs. One member opposed tying up so much space in a brand-new building, but supporters emphasized the income, insurance protections, and the church’s track record of careful use.
3. Joe's Snack Shack to run Crescent Park concession stand this summer (wpri.com) — East Providence residents can expect a new operator at Crescent Park’s clam shack this summer, as the city council approved a lease with Joe’s Snack Shack to run the concession stand. 4. R.I. bike infrastructure faces funding challenges, stalled efforts to connect paths (browndailyherald.com) — Plans to better connect Rhode Island’s major bike paths have hit a setback, but East Providence will still see “much-needed” paving as part of the Henderson Bridge project. Federal and state officials shifted a key grant away from bike improvements toward basic road and sidewalk work, worrying advocates who hoped for a safer, more connected route between the East Bay Bike Path and Blackstone River Bikeway.
