Massive sewage spill shuts down prime quahog beds in Narragansett Bay (providencejournal.com) — A ruptured sewer main in East Providence has spilled roughly 800,000 gallons of untreated sewage into the Providence River near Watchemoket Cove, forcing an immediate shellfishing shutdown. The state has closed prime quahog beds in the Lower Providence River for at least a week while officials repair the pipe, test water and shellfish, and determine when harvesting can safely resume.
2. Here's what happened in Rhode Island high school sports on Tuesday, May 5 (providencejournal.com) — East Providence athletes were busy Tuesday, with the Townies softball team falling to Cranston West despite multi-hit games from Nethania Figueroa and Trinity Provencher, and boys volleyball sweeping North Smithfield 3-0. Today’s schedule includes East Providence baseball at Portsmouth, girls lacrosse hosting Pilgrim, and the golf team teeing off at Newport Country Club.

East Providence tops off new community center for residents of all ages (wpri.com) — East Providence has just placed the final beam on its new community center near the high school and senior center, with an opening targeted by October 31, 2026.
