East Providence, RI – Mary Jane Andreozzi, Bay View Academy’s Visual Arts Chairperson, is a working artist based out of Seekonk, MA. She recently took part in the Seekonk Artist Network’s Open Studios event, hosting an open house in her own home studio. Mary Jane, who originated the Open Studios idea for Seekonk Artist Network, was joined by former Bay View teacher and New York artist, Judy Araujo Volkmann. Together they exhibited their work which included painting, drawing, jewelry and fiber art, and were joined by musicians Robert Dumont and Steve Volkmann.
The Open Studios event featured fourteen artists in six different houses. According to Mary Jane, “The event was a huge success! It was a fantastic way to bring the community together. We had a wide range of visual artists and Musical performers sharing their talents with the community. We were all thrilled with the response from the weekend and will probably make it an annual event.”
Mary Jane is presently in her twenty-sixth year teaching at Bay View Academy. She has Bachelor of Arts from Rhode Island College and a Master of Arts in teaching from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Her two daughters, Kelsey Petrie (class of 2010) and Emily Petrie (class of 2013) are Bay View alumnae. Kelsey is currently a Jefferson Scholar at the University of Virginia. Emily, who was valedictorian of her class, is in her freshman year at Brown University.
