Bay View Juniors Win Leadership Award

Shannon Dilorio, of Cranston, and Lily Gucfa, of Rehoboth, Mass., were recognized.

From St. Mary Academy-Bay View: Two St. Mary Academy - Bay View juniors received The RI Secretary of State 2018 Leadership Award in a ceremony at the Rhode Island State House on Friday, May 11th, 2018. They are Lily Gucfa (Rehoboth, MA), and Shannon Dilorio (Cranston).

Each year Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea presents the Civic Leadership award to two juniors from each high school in Rhode Island who have demonstrated outstanding civic engagement and leadership in their school and in their community. The History and Social Sciences Department at St. Mary Academy - Bay View selected Lily and Shannon for their outstanding achievements both in and out of the classroom.

Lily Gucfa is the founder of Bay View’s Culture Share Club and is involved in a number of Rhode Island School of Design programs including architecture, urban revitalization, and engineering. In addition, she is a member of several academic honor societies including National Honor Society and is the recipient of a 2017 Scholastic Art and Writing Award.

Shannon Dilorio is also a member of the school’s Culture Share Club, as well as the Model United Nations Club. She is a leader of the school’s Zoe Literacy Club and is a member of several academic honors societies including the National Honor Society. She is a Church Eucharistic Minister and altar server, and camp counselor at Roger Williams Park Zoo.
