Bay View Senior Named National Merit Finalist
Rebekah Pendrak is among 15,000 U.S. students competing for scholarships.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI - From St. Mary Academy - Bay View: St. Mary Academy - Bay View senior, Rebekah Pendrak (North Providence) has been named a National Merit Finalists for 2018. To become a Finalist, the Semifinalist and the student's high school must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about the Semifinalist’s academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® scores that confirm the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying test.
Each year around 1.6 million students take the PSAT, and Rebekah placed among the top 1% of all students nationwide. She is now 1 of 15,000 finalists in the country eligible for one of the 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth about $2,500 a year.
St. Mary Academy - Bay View is an independent Catholic School for girls open to all faiths, Pre-kindergarten through Grade 12, located in East Providence, Rhode Island and sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy.
