Bertha A. Hanson, 95

Bertha A. (Pettee) Hanson of East Providence and a former resident of North Scituate for 45 years, died on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Linn Health Care Center in East Providence. She was 95.

Known to all as Bert, she was the wife of the late John R. Hanson, to whom she was married for 65 years. She was the daughter of the late Marion S. (Aldrich) and Forrest M. Pettee.

Survivors include her son, Robert K. Hanson and his wife, Sandra, of Riverside, , and her daughter, Joyce R. Schaeuble and her husband, John, of Sacramento, California. She was the grandmother of Jennifer Wright and her husband, Josh, of Riverside and Jill Murphy and her husband, Glen, of North Smithfield, and great-grandmother to Lauren Murphy, Maya Wright, Gage Murphy, and Ethan Wright. She also leaves a niece, Susan (Pettee) Augustus and a nephew, David K. Hazard. She was the sister of the late Ruth M. Hazard and Kenneth F. Pettee.

She was a graduate of Classical High School and Edgewood Secretarial School. She held several positions at and around Brown University, her last, working in the chemistry department at Brown as an administrative assistant. She and her husband were avid square and round dancers.

In lieu of flowers in her memory,  contributions may be made to Beacon Hospice, 1 Catamore Blvd., East Providence or the charity of your choice.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held in Swan Point Chapel on Friday, Jan. 11, at 10 am. Arrangements are being handled by Smith Mason Funeral Home, smithmason.com.
