Boston Globe: Providence Area to Lose Homeland Security Funding

The area covered includes East Providence.

Rhode Island will be losing anti-terror funding, the Boston Globe is reporting. The Providence  area is one of at least 30 cities to lose money from the grant, according to the Globe.

"In fiscal year 2010, the Providence metro area received about $4.8 million in funding through the initiative, according to Steve Kass, spokesman for the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency. In addition to Providence, that area includes Warwick, Cranston, Pawtucket, East Providence, North Providence, West Warwick, Johnston and Central Falls. That area covers about 600,000 residents, or close to 60 percent of the Ocean State's population, according to the Providence Emergency Management Agency's website."
