National touring artists Greg Greenway, Pat Wictor, and Joe Jencks have made their mark as veteran touring singer-songwriters, but Brother Sun is no songwriters round. The trio's harmonies, as much as their lyrics, tell what they are all about - warm as a campfire, stirring as a gospel church, rousing as a call to arms. Fusing folk, Americana, blues, pop, jazz, rock, and a cappella singing, Brother Sun is an explosion of musical diversity and harmony, in the finest of male singing traditions.
Brother Sun is a unique celebration of the amazing power of singing together. The music of Brother Sun is not resident in any one of these talented artists – but rather exists in the space between them. Their combined musical skills make for an unforgettable experience - three rich voices blending on a well-crafted foundation of guitar, slide guitar, piano, ukulele, and bouzouki.
After two years of nationwide touring and performances marked by outstanding songwriting, ethereal harmonies, off-the-cuff humor, and standing ovations, they have released "Some Part of the Truth," a CD that goes a large step further in revealing Brother Sun not only as singers, but as complete musicians. "Some Part of the Truth" is cinematic in its sweep, each song like a short film. The CD takes listeners on an evocative and vivid journey through America's cities and heartlands, where unsung heroes struggle and sometimes win the daily battles of life and love.
The response to this trio’s music has been tremendous. From main stage performances with standing ovations at folk festivals like Kerrville, Falcon Ridge, Philadelphia, Connecticut, and Old Songs, to sold-out concerts throughout the US, Brother Sun has earned the respect of fans, colleagues, and presenters alike. Their music and message appeals to fans of both contemporary and traditional music.
"Some Part of the Truth" (2013) debuted at #1 on the The North American Folk Music Chart, where it remained for two months, and was named 2013 Album of the Year. The #1 track from the CD, "Lady of the Harbor," also debuted at #1 and was named 2013 Song of the Year. "Some Part of the Truth" also rose to #2 on Sirius XM’s Americana Chart. The record has quickly become a favorite of both DJs and fans.
"The moment Greg Greenway, Joe Jencks, and Pat Wictor pooled their voices as Brother Sun in 2011, the folk world was enriched by their harmony, humanity, and humor. In the years since, their bond with each other and their fans has only deepened. If there's any justice (something they care deeply about), their superb sophomore release, Some Part of the Truth, should bring the warmth of Brother Sun to a whole new world hungry for the healing power of their music." (John Platt, WFUV - New York).
