Child in Warwick Crash Has Died

The 8-year-old was a passenger in a car driven by Justin Preston, of East Providence.

EAST PROVIDENCE, RI — The 8-year old child injured in a head-on collision Sunday on Warwick Avenue has died, Warwick police indicated.

"Jahmeer Valles-Halloway has succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead early Wednesday afternoon," police wrote in a Facebook post.

According to police, the crash happened around 8:40 p.m. near 982 Warwick Ave.

"The investigation revealed that a southbound vehicle crossed over the double yellow line and struck a northbound vehicle head-on," police said.

Jahmeer was riding in a car driven by Justin Preston, of East Providence. He was charged with driving under the influence, but the charges will "be amended in the upcoming weeks," due to the child's death.
