Citizen Action Group Urges DEM to Shut Down TLA/Pond View Operations
The East Providence Coalition supports an intent to suspend the facility's processing license.

The East Providence Coalition, a network of families dedicated to the eradication of pollution in city neighborhoods, is in full support of a decision by the Department of Environmental Management (DEM) to of TLA/Pond View's operating license.
“TLA Pond View has been operating above the law for far too long, and East Providence needed a cop on the beat. DEM has finally stepped up to enforce the law, and now residents of East Providence are breathing easier this holiday season. Congratulations to the hundreds of families who organized together to clean up their neighborhood and protect their health," said Taryn Hallweaver, community organizer of Toxics Action Center in an e-mail to Patch.
DEM has been slow to act in the past, say members. However, they are pleased with current movement on the issue.

“It’s been frustrating to say the least to watch DEM sit on the sidelines instead of referee like they should. But now we couldn’t be happier to see them step up and enforce the law," said Jo-Ann Durfee, member of the East Providence Coalition. "This is a victory for the residents of East Providence and a testament to what a big difference people can make if they come together and organize to clean up their neighborhood."
Members are meeting with DEM officials today to explain their concerns, according to organizers.

"We’ll do everything possible at the local level to move things along," said Hallweaver.
