For the first time this spring, members at the Boys & Girls Club of East Providence are getting an opportunity to explore the ocean’s depth’s thanks to Dr. Robert Ballard’s Immersion Learning Program, Return to the Titanic.
In this multi-media program, participants are following Dr. Ballard and his team as they return to the wreck of the Titanic to determine how much the shop has deteriorated since its initial discovery in 1985. While having fun and learning about this amazing shipwreck, children are also covering science topics including how to draw a scale drawings, buoyancy, model-building, latitude and longitude, conservation, and how scientists use remotely operated vehicles.
“We are grateful to the Immersion Learning Program for making this wonderful curriculum available to our members,” said Club Executive Director Erin Gilliatt. “Our members are learning science and technology skills while having a great time, which helps to develop their enjoyment of these subjects during the school day.”
